History of IPSA

During the practical course 'virtual medicine (2004)' at the University of Braunschweig the project IPSA - Inventor Physics Simulation API was founded with the goal to upgrade Open Inventor (Coin3D) using the potentials of the Open Dynamics Engine (ODE) to create realistic, physical 3D-simulations. The resulting library allows the generation of animations and perform calculations respecting physical attributes such as gravitation, friction etc.

IPSA was later taken on and expanded by the IAIM group of the University of Karlsruhe and was published in early 2009 under the terms of the ISC license with the approval of the original authors.

In 2009 the University of Karlsruhe and the Research Center of Karlsruhe merged into the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
